West Africa Natural Remedies in the Gullah Geechee Region

We have all heard of natural remedies, gargle some salt water for a sore throat, lemon for your joints, or maybe aloe for sunburn. Some of us can name specific cultures where this knowledge comes from, but for many of us this knowledge is transmitted orally. As cultures continue to interact with another, as they have done since the dawn of time, distinctions become muddled.

Some of these natural remedies have been documented. Preserved by the people of African descent who found themselves on the coast of Georgia, people such as Charles Wilson used natural remedies profusely and could even trace some plants and remedies back to Africa.
